Northlight's Department of Marine Biology has opened a year-round field station on Half Moon Bay, giving undergraduate students direct access to kelp forest and estuary ecosystems just 40 minutes from campus.
The station supports the department's long-running kelp restoration programme, which has replanted eleven hectares of kelp forest since 2019. Second-year students will now complete a residential field semester as part of the Marine Biology BSc.
The building itself is timber-framed and fully solar powered, and includes a public touch-tank exhibit that local schools can visit free of charge.
